Charging and dining at the same stop
For every charging station you see whether there is a good place to eat within walking distance – and the other way round. Filter by connector, power and fast chargers.
Google Maps shows you the exit you have just driven past. JouleVerne shows you the charging stations and restaurants coming up in 30 kilometres – or in 30 minutes. In your direction of travel, each with the exact detour time. On your car display, too.
For Android 8 and up. No sign-up required. The app is coming to the Google Play Store shortly.
And of all things, Google Maps turned out to be surprisingly useless. It only shows restaurants in your immediate vicinity – which means the exit you have just passed.
Our workaround became a ritual: I would name one of the next towns along the way, my wife searched for a restaurant there. Clumsy – but it worked.
Since we drive an EV, we have the same problem all over again, just with chargers. Searching “along the route” while driving is close to impossible. And sometimes you end up nowhere.
The jackpot? A good charging station right next to a good restaurant. That is exactly what JouleVerne finds.
No rigid route plan. You say where you are heading – and at the right moment you see which stop is actually worth it.
For every charging station you see whether there is a good place to eat within walking distance – and the other way round. Filter by connector, power and fast chargers.
For every suggestion you see how many minutes the side trip really costs you. No guessing, no detour to nowhere.
One tap shows charge points ahead of you – not in a circle around you. The faster you drive, the further the app looks ahead. Whatever sits behind the exit you just passed never shows up. Free, permanently. How many bays are free right now – shown in green – comes with JouleVerne Pro.
All three also work on the display in your car: Android Auto shows the list and the detour times without you reaching for the phone. One tap and Google Maps takes over the navigation.
of fast chargers have a restaurant within 250 metres. Charging and eating well are far closer together than people think – you just have to see it.
JouleVerne Pro cannot be bought yet. The prices are fixed and apply from the day the app appears in the Google Play Store; until then Pro is not available.
Prices incl. VAT, billed through Google Play. The 7-Day Pass runs from purchase and then ends by itself – no subscription, nothing to cancel. If it isn’t enough, you simply buy another, like a motorway vignette.
Yes. You enter your destination and JouleVerne shows charging stations and restaurants that lie ahead on the road you are actually driving – each with the exact detour time in minutes. You set the search range either as a distance or as a time, for example “within 30 kilometres” or “within 45 minutes”.
Google Maps searches around your current position, which is why it also shows you the exit you have just passed. JouleVerne searches ahead along your route and tells you, for every suggestion, how many minutes the detour really costs.
The app is free permanently and shows no advertising. That includes 3 free searches a month, the detour time, handover to Google Maps and Android Auto at no extra charge. The “charge now” feature is separate from that and free permanently. JouleVerne Pro costs €3.99 as a 7-day pass or €39.99 per year and adds live availability of charge points, among other things. The pass simply expires – no subscription, nothing to cancel.
Yes, at no extra charge. The list and the detour times appear on the display in your car. One tap hands the chosen stop over to Google Maps, which takes over the navigation.
No. There is no registration, no email address and no password. JouleVerne stores neither your searches nor your routes or locations.
Not yet. JouleVerne runs on Android 8 and later, and on Android Auto. An iOS version is planned but has no date.
That is what “charge now” is for. One tap shows charge points ahead of you rather than in a circle around you; the faster you drive, the further the app looks ahead. Whatever sits behind the exit you just passed never appears. This feature is free, permanently.
